FOTD & Review: Dr. Jart Waterfuse BB Cream

Hi guys!

So today I will be reviewing the Dr. Jart Waterfuse BB cream. This is available at Sephora but I suggest you take a look at the Dr. Jart website to see what kind of products they offer other than the ones that are sold at Sephora.

The Basics:
-1.7 oz ($34 at Sephora, slightly different product for $42 on the Dr. Jart website)
-SPF 25 PA++
-Oil free
-Made with 50% water
-One shade
-Made in Korea

Immediately, I'm sure the price can make some feel uneasy but this is not a product anyone should be using a lot of.  You do not need a lot of this to cover your imperfections.  That being said, no, it is definitely not as cheap as the ones you can find in drugstores but I strongly believe this BB cream is worth every penny.

The Good:
I think this is most ideal for people with normal to dry skin. I've heard it works well for oily skin too, but you have to use some powder/blot every few hours. The finish is dewy, your face will look plump and 'glowy'. When I'm wearing a "full face" of makeup, I start out with this BB cream, apply some blush and mascara, then I'm good to go! I also like that this product has SPF 25. I use a teeny bit (and I'll explain later why) and blend, blend, blend! Ta-da! Most of my imperfections are gone! I'm not too crazy about concealing EVERY single blemish so even the ones that still peek through after applying this, I leave alone because there is enough coverage.  I love that it's oil-free but not drying for my face.  This is probably the main reason why this product could also work for oily skin. There is also a scent, nothing overwhelming, but it's slightly floral (kind of reminds me of my serum but not as strong as my serum).  It's a pleasant smell and it does not linger for me.

The Bad:
Okay. Great product. Everyone should be able to use it, right?
Unfortunately not, as this product only comes in one shade. If you are very fair or very dark, you will not be able to use this product without looking a bit 'off'.  I am on the lighter side and using too much of this will make my face face look darker than it is.  But it is absolutely fine because I only need a thin layer of this and I'm good to go.  I noticed that the more layers I put on, it made me look darker. So I can't really say this is "buildable" (unless you are exactly this shade) but I don't think it's something you really need to build!

Here is how the one from Sephora looks.

What they say.

This is the consistency.
It feels cool, literally, and it feels moist. I can't quite describe it but it's almost as if I feel water droplets.
The consistency is almost putty-like, sort of a cross between pudding.. and cream??
Man, I really am not good at this.
In other words..
It feels nice!

Semi blended
As you can see, it is too dark for my pale forearm before being blended.

But after much blending, it's hard to tell it's really that much darker!

...And I leave you with a FOTD! I tried to stand as close to natural light to show you guys how this looks on me and I think this pretty much looks like my own skin. As you can see, some of my imperfections peek through (especially my right cheek) but I personally think this is good enough. Unless it's for something really important, I will skip concealer. Like I've said in a previous post, I either wear foundation (or BB cream) OR just concealer but usually never both at the same time.

Ahh I'm dying to try some other Dr. Jart products! Can't wait 'til I'm done with this so I can try another BB cream from their line.

What is your favorite BB cream? Do you like BB creams in general or are you a foundation person?

Falsies Round 2!

Hi hi hi!
Hope everyone is well :) If you didn't know, I reply to all comments now (on my blog) so if you leave a comment, come back to see my reply! I also changed my font size because sometimes I have to strain my already horrible eyesight to read my own blog.

So as I've said before, I really wanted to try false lashes and I finally did thanks to my friend. But my hunt for false lashes did not stop there, I bought two other ones from my local beauty supply store. Today I'm going to share one of them, and in short: it was okay but nothing great. I haven't tried the other one yet but I can already tell I'll like it more.

The brand is called Darkness and it's a Korean brand. They're pretty famous for their "double eyelid" glue (the white one) but I've never really heard of their lashes before. I was pretty excited because one box contained two pairs (at about the same price) and it looked pretty fancy (there are small lashes criss-crossing and the top). In the store I couldn't tell that they looked a bit different but I realized what the difference was when I got home.

The difference is the size. I'm thinking maybe I was supposed to cut the lashes to use them almost like individual lashes but I just don't think it'd look the same all butchered up.

^Really pretty though, huh? It's like the long ones are the top layer and the smaller/thinner lashes are below it. The ends look pretty long but it doesn't look too long when they're on my eyes.

Let me further explain. When I bought these lashes, I expected them to cover the length of my entire eye. The MUFE one I tried last time definitely did and the other pair I bought also will fit.

^The one on the bottom is the MUFE one and the one on top is Darkness. The MUFE one is sort of curved towards the right but it's still longer than the one from Darkness. I did not realize this in the store lol. I guess it's because I'm still new to false lashes and I wasn't that familiar with what the size is supposed to look like. When I applied it, it covered 2/3 of my eyes. I thought it'd look really funny but it didn't. In fact, in pictures you can't really tell... I think.

I also did not know it came with glue! In comes with really cute looking glue too!

^Underneath the box, there are instructions in Korean and two adhesives. Step #2, says to cut the lashes to my desire. I don't have a problem with the actual lashes, I have a problem with the length in itself.

^I thought the adhesives were really cute. They're really small! The one in the white is a "weaker" glue (regular, I would say) while the yellow one is a "stronger" glue (extra strength, I would say). I haven't used either because I have my DUO lash adhesive. Too cute to use :p

^As you can see, it doesn't look too extravagant. Not trying to fish for compliments but you can also see that I look weird when I try to smile and that I'm pretty pale T_T I seriously think I have the most awkward looking smile even when I'm not trying to be awkward :'( I consider it one of my flaws. P.S.: Cherry Jolly Ranchers lollipops ftw. Whooooo partially red lips.

^Natural light - but when I lower my eyes like this, you can tell that those are definitely not my own lashes lol.

Do you think I should just cut the lashes and use them as individual lashes instead?

MUFE False Lashes! & FOTD

Hey hey hey!
So my giveaway is ending in ~8 hours. It's now 11:59PM and it has officially closed! This is very exciting for me :)

I'm going to have to modify the rules a little.
a) I've decided to include everyone who partially participated (as in, they did not follow all the rules but did follow some of them). I did this because this is my first giveaway and I didn't want to leave anyone out who took the time to join in the first place. But next time, I don't think I'll be doing this.
b) I might have to make the second place winner a random winner as well - simply because of time constraints.
c) Not really a modification but the winners will be announced by January 18th so be sure to check back and see if you won!

Onto my first pair of falsies!

So I mentioned that I wanted to try false lashes. Believe it or not, the very next day I wrote that post, I met my super close friend. She gave me a belated Christmas gift from Sephora and it was a) a gift card b) Make Up For Ever False Eyelashes (#156 Genevieve), c) A DUO lash glue (dark tone).

I once mentioned that I wanted to try falsies one day during a random conversation and she remembered! So sweet of her, she always makes fun of me but inside I think she's madly in love with me HAHA.

The box with the gift card came with two slots. The slot on the left had the gift card and the right had a mirror! On the back she wrote:

To: Jane
From: Your butt

I always knew she loved me.

Onto the falsies!

^She threw in some samples as well. The Hello Kitty thing is a brown eyeliner!

The sales associate told her that there was no adhesive that comes with the lashes (even though clearly, there is a bottle). That's why she got me the DUO glue as well, in her words, "I couldn't get you lashes but no glue for them". These lashes are $15! I would never buy this with my own money but I'd probably always want them. They're a lot more fancier than I would have normally liked, especially the outer sides of the lashes but it doesn't look as dramatic when on. Um, I think so anyway. Besides, I love them so much more because my friend took the time to think this out for me!

A few close ups of the lashes!

^Inner

^Outer

As you can see, they're full blown lashes with some crosses between the lashes at the top. It's shorter on the inner side and longer on the outer. I tried them on today. It was weird trying them on by myself (I tried them once for a recital before but an actual makeup artist put them on for me). I was kind of scared and my face was only a few centimeters away from my mirror LOL. Due to my excitement/nervousness, I don't think I applied it TOO well but I was satisfied with what I got.

^Flash.

^No flash. Sorry for the stern look LOL.

Overall, I'm very pleased with it. I feel bad that they're $15 though. Wow oh wow. But at least they're reusable! Probably going to wear these forever.

That's it for today :)

False lashes for you personally, yay or nay?

Recent buys, FOTD, Updates

Hello hello hello! :) Hope everyone has been doing well!

A quick reminder that my one-year giveaway ends in SIX days. The month goes by so quickly, it's kind of scary. Make sure you have followed ALL of the rules. Go back and make sure you filled out all the mandatory fields!

I put up a new banner and my blog has a different color to it now. I know it looks so simple but it actually took a lot of time LOL. I don't know how some bloggers do it, with their fancy fancy fancy blogs! Totally envious, I'm pretty sure this is the best I got for now. I also changed my blog title to "sweetness of each day" because I want all of my days and yours to be filled with sweetness. I hope that my blog entries will be able to capture the sweetness of each of my days.

Enough of the sappy stuff LOL and onto the small haul. So as I stated in this post, I have been on a shopping ban for ~2 months. I was not able to not buy ANYTHING but I did not buy anything for myself that was over $20. In fact, I think the only thing I bought for myself that was ~$20 was the Too Faced Shadow Insurance Policy palette. So I didn't go cold turkey but I definitely was not spending $150 at Sephora! I'm really surprised at how well I did... really surprised.

Oh boo, this haul is boring :( And by "small", I meant really small.

Oh hello, horrid lighting not nice to see you again
I got this little bucket at Target for $1 :) It's about 4inches tall (without the handle) and I intend of keeping my brushes in it. The handle is a little crooked but all of them were kind of like that and I don't really mind.

Hello Kitty nail art stickers *HAPPY*. I'm going to do a NOTD soon using one of these. I think I'm going to use the lace stickers for nail tips but we'll see. These were $5 (EEEEEP) at Sephora. Goodness, really expensive for a small sheet of stickers. Why did I let myself do this?! But it's so cute... :( No more of these though. Hello Kitty ANYTHING is so expensive.

Lace eye mask from Target. Also $1. Not the best quality but it's good enough for me. Mostly because it's black and it's light. Because the quality isn't so great, the stretchy band thing isn't too tight, rather loose which I'll enjoy more.

On a random note, there is something new I want to try: Something like these...

Just kidding! But these are pretty crazy, huh? The one on the bottom is by Shu Umura (sp?) and I'm not sure about the top one. Neither are mine, credits to appropriate owners!
I want false lashes that are exactly opposite of the ones I showed, natural looking ones!
Some people argue that false lashes are the most fake things a woman can do to her face. Do you agree?

I also want to share a quick FOTD. I wish I would remember to actually sit down and take these, they never come out the way I want them to... although I don't think my real face justifies the picture at all LOL.

I had my hair pulled back into a messy bun hence... the bald looking head. But today, I liked my scarf and the way my eyeliner turned out.

I'm going to end this entry with...

AHH! 붕어빵! This is a Korean pastry that is in the shape of a goldfish and filled with red bean. It's sweet and fattening, all the things I love.

P.S. :I hate "disqus" or whatever the heck it's called. Why do so many of you guys use it :(

Battle of the eyelash curlers & FOTD

Urban Decay vs. Revlon!

Hello hello hello!
This is a delayed post, thank you finals! I'm not done till next week but I really wanted to finish this post!

Also, don't forget to enter my one-year giveaway here!

Today I want to do a review on my two favorite eyelash curlers, both I bought after I started this blog.

First off, let me introduce the eyelash curlers: Urban Decay "The Revolution" and the simple Revlon Eyelash Curler (Black/red).

I'll do some brief comparisons. The Urban Decay Eyelash Curler is $20. It's considered "revolutionary" I guess, because it's supposed to fit all eye shapes/sizes and not pinch your eyelids (which I was a victim to T_T). The shape of it is quite different as well. There are no "ends" on the sides! It comes with I think 5 or 6 replacement parts. I don't think this product is really raved about but I like it!

On the other hand, the Revlon Eyelash Curler was only about $6 at my local drugstore. It's probably my favorite cheap eyelash curler (and they still sell them!). It's your typical eyelash curler but it curls well, IMO. It comes with two replacement parts.

Problem is, I think my skin is kind of allergic to the metal of the Revlon one?? It turns my skin red when the the metal part touches anywhere other than my lashes. It's not itchy and it DOES go away but... it's also a reason why I prefer my UD over my Revlon. For the UD curler, it really is not likely that the metal parts will ever touch my face.

Without curled lashes:

REVLON:

See that red part on the right?!

URBAN DECAY:

In general, I like the UD one more because it doesn't leave that red mark and I think it curls evenly. The Revlon curler is a bit too big for my eyes which means it curls the end of my lashes pretty well but not really the beginning parts. But that doesn't really make the UD curler "HG" status... I'm still on the hunt for the perfect eyelash curler!

In short:
Urban Decay - 3.5/5
Revlon - 3/5

And yesterday after work I had a small get-together-dinner kinda thing with my co-workers except for that snobby girl I once mentioned LOL. It was fun. Hot (the really blasted the heat there) but fun. I won't see any of them till next semester I think. I came home looking pretty gross lol but I snapped a picture anyway.

P.S.: has anyone tried the Shu Umera (sp?) curler? They're not as available but I'd love to try it some day!

FOTD + Cosmetic Haul

Blah blah blah I hate humid weather! It makes me feel really BLAH, if you know what I mean. I really hate the humidity in New York, I heard that in California, the weather goes up to almost 100 degrees but it's rarely really humid. Today was only 90 degrees here but it was so humid, I'm glad my classes are over before noon and I work later in the day, that means it's still a little less humid. I don't know about you guys but I'd much rather be a little cold than stinking hot! Because when you're cold, you can just keep wearing clothes. When you're sweating, how much can you really do in terms of dressing "down"?!?!

Also, I thought I'd share that I haven't had soda in 4 days HAHA. It's a start right? Everyone has to start somewhere. LET'S GO FOR THREE MORE DAYS, JANE!

A photo of me to commemorate my endurance in the humidity today. It's worth commemorating because my face actually stayed together in the heat HAHA:

Bahahaha my hair is all messed up and stringy looking thanks to the beautiful humid weather today. Did I mention how much I love the MAC studio fix concealer? It was kinda expensive but I love it to bits. Who the heck likes to wear foundation in the middle of summer?! a teeny bit of concealer is the way to go!

Oh and I think I have a bug bite on my forehead, I hate bugs. Big ugly bugs make me want to cry ;(

And for something more interesting, my recent Sephora/Bloomingdales haul :) I spent a ton of money and I now have $49.84 + a $15 metro card under my name HAHA so pathetic. Can't wait till my next pay day so I can start SAVING again! Save, not spend! I have a separate "emergency expense" and I usually keep it to $200 but I've spent most of that up. I was doing really well though ;(

_Smashbox Lip Treatment (SPF 15)
_Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer (Smaller size) <- $16!!!!!! WHAAAT.
_MUFE HD powder
_Benefit High Beam
_Mac Mineralize Skinfinish (Semiprecious Pearl)
_Mac 116 Blush Brush
_Birthday freebie from Philosophy! Smells like vanilla cake.

More in depth post will follow this one. This is just a sneak preview :) Is there anything you guys want a specific review on?! :o if so, do let me know!
Horray for being poor now!!
