Review: Memoirs of a Kitty Palette

Hello! Hope everyone is well.
Today I want to do a brief review on the Memoirs of a Kitty palette. It isn't sold in Sephora anymore... I think (same idea here though). But it was $36 and I purchased mine back some time in July. I've used it for quite some time now so I think I can give a more accurate review now.

No matter how many times I look at it, I think it's so cute. I love the floral/pastel look of it and somehow I think "Memoirs of a Kitty" matches the palette very well. It also has a big mirror inside which I love.

Here's my general take on the Hello Kitty products sold at Sephora (then and now): The products are generally not that SUPER (compared to NARS/Too Faced/Urban Decay) but the packaging for Hello Kitty products are adorable. So is this palette worth $35? Maybe, maybe not. I personally would say yes because a) it comes with 4 eye shadows and 2 blushes. That's under $6 per product. The blushes come in a great size as well. And b) the packaging is adorable. I'm sorry but it is!

^This is the cover. Even the box this came with has the same design!

^I thought the bow was extra pretty. Sort of 3D!

^Contents.

The palette is divided into two levels. The first level contains the eye shadows, the second level contains the blushes.

^Level 1. I personally picked this palette because I can never have enough neutrals. #1 is a lovely highlight color, by the way. There definitely is fall out but nothing too excessive. #4 has the worst fall out but I've seen worse.

^Level 2. These are the blushes are these are still my FAVORITE blushes to date. I thought I would like #5 more (it's more peachy and less obvious) but it turned out that #6 looked better on me. I wear both of them though, I wear #6 first and I sort of blend everything out with #5.

^Swatches! It's a pretty frosty for the shadows and a bit shimmery (nothing too intense though) for the blushes.

No, these do not offer the highest of quality eye shadows. Yes, there are cheaper dupes of these colors. There is fall out and the blushes are better than the shadows in my opinion. But it is still good quality overall (and it is Hello Kitty) which should be noted. Would I buy one of these palettes again? I'm really not sure. For $35 I expect a teeny bit more from the eye shadows but if the blushes are the same quality and the eye shadows are colors I can work with, then why not? I believe Sephora is selling something similar right now but I'm not sure if I can work with all the eye shadows.

In short: 3.7/5

Here is a problem I had with all of the Hello Kitty products (or the ones I've come across, anyway). The shadows/blushes come in various colors but they don't have names! I wish they'd have names. Then I wouldn't have to number them from 1-6. Hah!

Are YOU a sucker for cute packaging? Confess!

  1. I'm a sucker for cute packaging and really wanted this palette because of it! The only thing though it that it was so ridiculously marked up in Canada - $53! And the Canadian dollar was higher at that time! I just couldn't justify it.

But looking at your photos... I still want it.

  2. That hello kitty container is just gorgeous!!! I love everything about it even the the neutral eyeshadow palette and blushes. Too bad the quality was a bit compromised. But I'd definitely buy one still if I saw these at the mall. Can't get enough of that cute container!!! (♥ε♥)

    1. We love cute packaging :P Yeah, the quality of the shadows were definitely compromised but I'm okay with that since it's a pretty good palette either way.

The colors in the palette are pretty natural too, so I probably would have actually used it. Boo. :\

It's also why I chose this particular palette - it was something I'd use and I really do use it!

    1. It turns out that lots of people are suckers for cute packaging. I don't feel so alone anymore!

And yeah, that is sad T_T
What's really awesome though, is when you get cool packaging AND a great product!

  8. I am *definitely* a sucker for cute packaging (I even literally just blogged about it!). I haven't been too impressed with the quality of the HK x Sephora stuff though but some of it is just too cute to pass up.

  9. The packaging is adorable, but I guess the cost of the
product has to do with the licensing of using Hello Kitty
as well. I would definitely want to buy something for the
packaging alone, no doubt =p I'm a sucker for perfume bottles
but I don't really wear perfume, so I can't really own the
bottles lol :p great post :)

  10. I'm a total sucker for cute/pretty packaging~ This HK palette is totally gorgeous! The blushes look so cute, too. If there were a Sephora here I don't know if I'd be able to resist ^^

    1. Haha it's fortunate you don't have a Sephora near you! It's a total money eating store =[

  11. As much as I love HK I have never bought anything from their Sephora line but this palette did catch my eye because of the packaging. I think it's actually a nice travel kind of compact but a shame the quality it just okay, since for $35 you would expect it to be a tad bit better.

    1. That's true. I feel the same way about cute products "ooooh it'd be GREAT if the product was great too!"

  12. That's tooooooooo cute, I love Hello Kitty, but i'm not a collector so I probably wouldn't get it. I've learnt to resist from lots of things, especially when Australia is very expensive :(
I think 5 looks really pretty in pan, and 1 looks super pretty swatched !

  14. I'm sure the make up makers/suppliers all know that women are suckers for cute packaging. They use that to their advantage all the time. =__=
I saw that Sephora has this LE gold Chinese New Year Hello Kitty compact mirror.. and I seriously considered getting it until I saw the price. How could a mirror be so expensive? :(

    1. Yeah, definitely a marketing scheme. That mirror sounds cute! Their compact mirrors in general are very expensive :(
